The building is designed around a linear garden which runs through the hospital and encloses the major public spaces for congregation and circulation. The design diagram creates connections to the surrounding lake, wetlands and woodland copses.
The development strategy forges links with local communities through training, use of local agricultural produce and uses bio- mass fuel to sustain and strengthen the economy and create a low carbon solution.
All good schemes begin with a determined client with a clear vision. Here, the design aspirations of the Trust and Health Estates were articulated in a brief and specification which were higher than comparable PFI schemes. This enabled the design team to achieve a very good working environment with a very high degree of daylight penetration into the plan.
It is the second hospital in the UK to be designed with 100% single rooms.
